EUS (Endoscopic ultrasound)

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is an advanced endoscopic technique used to assess the organs and structures in and around the digestive tract. It is performed using a special endoscope which is called an endoscopic ultrasound. This is an endoscope which has an ultrasound probe on its tip. This endoscope is used for closely visualising structures adjacent and just outside of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum.

EUS test in Ahmedabad is used for assessing structures and tumours arising from the wall of the intestines. The advantage of this technique is that one can even take EUS-guided biopsy from these structures without causing any physical pain. EUS can also be used to perform many therapeutic procedures like EUS guided drainage of pseudocyst and EUS guided necrosectomy. These procedures in the past were performed by surgeons with an open surgery. These can now be done endoscopically.

Endoscopic ultrasound in Ahmedabadis an option for people who have chronic liver conditions which require a biopsy.

Which conditions require an EUS or EUS guided biopsy ?

  • Esophageal conditions like Esophageal tumours
  • Mediastinal lesions around the esophagus – mediastinal lymph nodes
  • Staging biopsy of lymph nodes in lung cancer
  • Tumours of the stomach
  • Tumours/ cysts arising from the pancreas
  • Tumours arising from the bile duct or gallbladder
  • Tumours arising from the adrenal glands
  • Liver biopsy for acute and chronic liver conditions
  • Neuroendocrine tumours
